YHEC is a leading consultancy specialising in health economics, health technology assessment, and evidence generation and evaluation. Founded in 1986 at the University of York, YHEC was established before many national HTA bodies and at a time when health economics in industry was still emerging. Today, we remain a value-driven consultancy that supports health systems and industry in making evidence-based decisions.

As HTA evaluators, advisors, and expert trainers, we bring a multi-angled perspective to every project. With over 70 dedicated staff members, our team includes experienced health economists, modellers, outcome researchers, statisticians, literature reviewers, medical writers, and information specialists.

Our relationship with the University of York

YHEC is wholly owned by the University of York, which uniquely allows us to bridge the gap between cutting-edge academic research and real-world application. While we operate independently, we benefit from our close ties with the University’s renowned academic departments: the Centre for Health Economics, the Centre for Reviews and Dissemination, and the Department of Health Sciences. This relationship allows us to draw on their specific academic expertise, access extensive University resources, and engage in collaborative initiatives that advance the field of health economics.

While each of these research organisations complement one another, they each have distinct roles. Notably, YHEC is the only organisation that provides consultancy services, which enables us to work with a range of global clients across health systems and industry sectors, from innovators to established companies.
