Joint Clinical Assessment (JCA)
Joint Clinical Assessment (JCA) is a centralised process under the EU HTA Regulation where a comparative analysis of the clinical evidence for a new health technology is compiled at the EU level. It evaluates the relative effectiveness and safety of a technology against existing alternatives. JCA reports provide a common evidence base for national HTA bodies, who must give them “due consideration” in local decision making. However, the JCA does not make a value judgement or recommendation of a technology’s cost effectiveness or reimbursement status, as these decisions are the responsibility of individual EU member states.
