Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA)
The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) are a set of evidence-based reporting guidelines that outline the reporting items deemed essential for maintaining a minimum level of reporting quality in systematic reviews and meta-analyses. They are detailed in a 27-item PRISMA Checklist, which is split into the following sections to correspond with a typical review report or manuscript: Title, Abstract, Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion and Funding. Each category contains guidance on the minimum information points (“items”) that should be reported in each section of a report or manuscript, to ensure a consistent minimum standard of reporting.
