The global climate is changing due to human activity and greenhouse gas emissions. The healthcare industry accounts for up to 8% of global emissions, so there is a growing imperative to address its environmental footprint. Health technology assessment (HTA) bodies, like the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE), are changing how they evaluate health technologies, placing a greater focus on environmental data.
But this shift presents a new challenge: how do we balance traditional health outcomes with environmental impact?
This webinar provides a crucial overview of the methods used to quantify the environmental impact of healthcare interventions. We will discuss various approaches to incorporating sustainable development into HTA decisions, from navigating the complexities of multi-criteria frameworks to exploring the "trade-off" between health economics and environmental outcomes.

This course is designed for researchers, health economists, and pharmaceutical or medical device professionals who wish to understand the emerging role of environmental sustainability in HTA decision making.
YHEC’s training courses are not recorded. However, the slides will be shared with those who attended the session.
All of YHEC’s courses have limited places available to ensure that sessions permit discussion and interaction with the group. We can also offer bespoke training courses to accommodate a larger number of attendees.
As of 2020, all of YHEC’s training courses will be held virtually. If you would prefer to attend a face-to-face course, we can provide a bespoke training course held at your preferred location.
The course fee (less 10% administrative charge) will be refunded for cancellations received in writing at least one month prior to the training. Substitutes can be made, but please email the new attendee details to [email protected].
Cancellations made less than one month prior to the study day are not refundable. In the unlikely event that, due to unforeseen circumstances, the training course has to be cancelled, only the course fees will be refunded.
