Professor Matthew Taylor

Chief Executive Officer

Matthew is YHEC's CEO, leading our research and business operations. With a background in health economics and a PhD focused on measuring health-related quality of life, Mat's work bridges methodological rigour with real-world application. His areas of expertise and interest include quality-of-life evaluation, ethical decision making in healthcare, and the integration of environmental impact into health policy.

Matthew has contributed to over 100 health technology assessment submissions and brings valuable experience from his work with industry, the NHS, patients, and charities. He is an Honorary Professor at the University of York, serves on the editorial board for Global Health Economics and Sustainability, and is a Trustee for OSCAR’s Paediatric Brain Tumour Charity. Previously, he was a Scientific Lead for NICE’s Economic and Methodological Unit and an Expert Adviser for the NICE Centre for Guidelines.

A skilled communicator and educator, Matthew finds particular satisfaction in making complex health economic principles accessible and meaningful. He fosters a collaborative environment, translating client needs into robust, defensible analysis, which makes him a trusted partner in navigating complex healthcare decisions.
