Cohort models
A cohort model simulates the experience of a group (cohort) of patients receiving (or not receiving) a new therapy. Instead of tracking the the response of individuals, the model estimates the proportion of the cohort experiencing specific health events or transitioning through health states over time, often using decision trees and Markov processes. The costs and utilities associated with these events and states are then applied to the respective proportions of the cohort and aggregated to provide an overall economic assessment of the therapy’s impact on the cohort.
