Early Value Assessment (EVA)

Early Value Assessment (EVA) is a rapid assessment process used by NICE for new and promising medical technologies, including digital products, diagnostics, and devices. This programme is designed to evaluate technologies that address a national unmet need in the UK, such as those that could reduce hospital waiting times or improve care for a specific patient group, but for which the evidence base is not yet complete.

EVA allows for a quick evaluation of a technology’s clinical effectiveness and value for money, with the goal of providing an early recommendation for use in the NHS while more evidence is being collected. If a technology receives a conditional recommendation, NICE works with stakeholders to develop an evidence generation plan. This plan guides the collection of further real-world data, which will then be used to inform a future, full NICE guidance on whether the technology should be adopted routinely.
